Damned if I can remember where I am on this. Not much to report - am still plodding through the tester coat toile.

Got one sleeve on, the collar is attached. Still to do - the lining.

Nonetheless - looking very COATY (though the colour isn't very Sherlock.). And I tried it on, and it swishes just fine. God I am good.
No, really. For a hack who sells things at times, and never did formal tailoring or even a sewing course? Oh yeah.
I don't feel like being modest about this.

I still have issues. but this is why you make a test piece, yeah?

When the sleeve was attached the the shoulder pad in place, most of the wrinkle problem from the back dispaeared. Thanks the small gods.

The sleeve needs to be rotated slightly, and it is STILL a touch too slim. Also personally I would like more gusset space under the arms to raise them better. So I need to feck with that slightly but other than that the sleeve is great. It still doesn't have the cuffs on yet.

The patch pockets are ok, once I got the proportions right. I still hate the goddamned welt pockets on the chest. I think I placed them slightly low. So... SO. Test coat, right> The collar is looking right (Very important) ad the tailor stiffening worked out quite well, it helps the collar stand up (VERY important) and the roll when it lays flat is good as well.

Pat on the back for me.
Next - cuffs. Sewing the lining together and attaching that. Then dreaded hemming. And buttonholes. Almost at the end of the test garment.

Yes, modesty is for idiots. If you're making Sherlock's coat you need to channel Sherlock. Definitely deserve a pat on the back. Can't imagine you're going through all this work to give it away! Even if it didn't fit me I would hang on to that thing!

I often make test garments. If the material is nice enough and it isn't too messed up, I'll sell it off cheap or give it away. I have too many clothes.

Modesty? That's for people who don't know what they are capable of!! Says my internal Sherlock.

Very very happy with the pleats.

Ah. Vacation. Happy day.

Are you giving away just the test coat or the final one?

*narrowed eyes* Just the test coat... NOT the real one.

RRRrrrrrRRRr

Because by the time I will have finished the real one, I'll have put an untenable amount of hours into it. Mainly because a. I was testing some new practices, and learning takes time, and b. I was trying to get it to look nicer than my usual?

It isn't practical for me to sell it, it'd be worth as much as the original.

Well that makes sense then. See, when you said making it for your friend, I thought you meant the final product, not the test version! Now it all makes sense :-)

Oh hell no. Although we went fabric shopping together! She was appalled at the price I paid for the damned special snowflake interlining. Well we are just ESL teachers.

I haven't made anything for a friend in a long time. I don't really consider giving her my rejected unloved test coat anything like a favour or gift.

Gosh, I AM a shit. I think I haven't sewed a gift in a couple years.

No, if we actually do a cosplay thing, she'll be my John. I get to be Sherlock. Because as my friend Jen said when I asked why she was John and I was Sherlock, "Because you are taller."

Oh WELL that's okay then. Not because I am clever! LOL

Hey! She didn't say, "Because you are bitchy and tactless," did she? Take your left-handed compliments where you can! :D

LOL I am just talking to her on Facebook, and she's one of our kind and would totally agree with that observation!
